Story: Lee Health spent a lot of money to improve their kidney transplant center. It's reported they spent between six to eight million dollars for the renovations. Unfortunately, they had to fire one of the two main surgeons because they felt he wasn't a good fit in the center. The other surgeon took maternity leave last fall and was terminated while on leave since they couldn't a replacement in time. Since the center fired one surgeon and couldn't temporarily replace the other, the center shut down last month. Tampa General has rented space inside the old building and will be working with kidney transplant recipients there. However, patients will have to travel to Tampa for their surgeries.
Problem: Since the center is now closed, patients have to go elsewhere for kidney transplants
Who has the problem: Patients who need kidney transplants

Story: The United States government states that they care about the privacy internet users but is selling software to foreign countries that are using it to invade privacy. This invasion of privacy is both unethical and allows nations to monitor what pages a citizen can view. This oppresses free speech in a sense. The U.S has sold facial recognition software to Middle Eastern countries who are using it to track persons of interest as well. Some people are stating that it's suspicious because an Israeli company that uses this software may be linked to the killing of an American journalist in the Middle East a while back.
Problem: Cyber intelligence software sold by the US to Middle Eastern countries is being used to infiltrate and monitor the online activity of certain/all residents
Who has the problem: Residents living in certain Middle Eastern countries

Story: A private company has offered up 160 acres of prime golf real estate to Collier County commissioners in exchange for $28 million. No matter how you cut that up, it's a lot of money. Residents near the area are horrified about this because they believed they'd have a place to golf at for generations to come but that may not be true for long. County commissioners have recently raised county sales tax by one percent to allocate more funds towards infrastructure so shelling out all this money for a golf course may not be the best course of action. Certain people do see it as a positive though. 160 acres is a lot of space and commissioners are considering the idea of turning it into a recreational area. Maybe even something along the lines of Central Park in NYC but on a much smaller scale. If the county doesn't buy the property, it's rumored that the private owners may build housing or business plazas across that area.
Problem: Residents who live near this golf course are scared that their properties will become devalued since the golf course is a big factor in selling their properties at high prices
Who has the problem: Residents who like to golf or live in the area and purchased a property to sell it off later for its value

Title: After gun suicide, hospital reps discuss security measures
Link: https://infoweb.newsbank.com/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3ANDNB%21Naples%2BDaily%2BNews%2B%2528FL%2529/year%3A2019%212019/mody%3A0119%21January%2B19&f=advanced&action=browse&format=text&docref=news/1710C8CE600BA8B8
Story: A suicidal patient killed himself in his hospital room last week and now OSHA is investigating NCH to see how they let this happen. While they do have security guards and video surveillance systems, neither one of the two NCH hospitals have metal detectors of second-tier security systems to verify if anyone in the hospital could potentially present themselves as a threat to the staff or other patients. OSHA is asking NCH to provide a written statement on why they shouldn't come and do an physical investigation on the premises since the investigation they're performing now is being done through phone and fax. While the incident was isolated to that specific patient and their room, the low measure of security could allow for other incidents that may risk the safety of staff and others.
Problem: NCH has low security measures that could compromise the safety of staff and patients
Who has the problem: Staff working at NCH or patients staying at NCH for treatment

Story: Lee and Collier County school district officials are being pressed to add safe zones to the inside of classrooms so that students know where to go in the event of an active shooting. The Lee County Public School security director has mentioned that he wants to implement new safety mechanisms to all Lee County schools. This includes locks on doors that can be locked from the inside and placing blinds over classroom windows so gunmen can't see inside classrooms.
Problem: Lee and Collier County schools have low security measures that can be proven ineffective in the event of an active shooting
Who has the problem: Staff and students at Lee and Collier County schools who may fall victim to an active shooting
Hi Brandon. I really like how your organized this blog. It was easy for me to know what the problem and who has the problem. I like that none of the articles were about the same scenario. They were all different so I was able to learn about a much news around the United States.
